ACT at Work
Achieving Positive Results for Business
The secret to achieving positive change in the the workplace is to introduce new behaviours (ways of doing things) that stick.
“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always had” – NLP Presupposition
Unfortunately, most workplace training just looks to build new skills expecting the new behaviours to magically become embedded. At ACT Personal Development we do things differently – we work with you to ensure that real change actually happens in practice – not just in theory!
How ACT works to create real change
We make the process of change as easy as 1, 2, 3…
- Be clear about the results you want
- Acquire new skills
- Get evidence that they work
Our approach generates quick wins in a fun/low risk way to create a positive learning state. New beliefs start to form – this works! This belief, combined with practice starts to embed new habits – why wouldn’t I do it this way again?
The traditional way – How not to do it…
Traditionally, training has focussed on giving people knowledge and expecting them to be able to apply it, this is:
· High risk and low motivation – What if it doesn’t work? What if it makes things worse?
· Low belief which also means low motivation – I don’t know if this will work, I might not be able to do it
· Fighting against existing habits – That’s not how I usually do things
Getting the results you want
At ACT we adopt a multi-level learning approach in all our training. We apply Kirkpatrick’s evaluation model which is a tried and tested approach for ensuring that our training is delivered in the way that works best with how people actually learn to deliver lasting results.
Level 1: Reaction
We deliver a positive, fun, learning experience enabling all participants to access the best possible learning state.
Level 2: Skills/Knowledge
We give sufficient underpinning theory so that participants understand HOW and WHY things work
Level 3: Behaviours
This is where theory is put into practice. We encourage testing out these new behaviours “off-line” by applying them to simple/small projects or goals in order to build confidence and belief.
Level 4: Results
Results are at the heart of everything we do. We ensure that the goal is clear up front and that everyone is clear about what success looks, sounds and feels like. We work with participants to develop strategies for embedding their new behaviours into their work in order to achieve positive result
Below is a range of courses that we deliver either as “open” courses or for teams, groups or organisations. This is just a small sample of the training we can offer.

Goal setting
Goal Setting for Success
“Having an exciting destination is like setting a needle in your compass. From then on, the compass knows only one point-its ideal. And it will faithfully guide you there through the darkest nights and fiercest storms.” Daniel Boone
Why Set Goals?
Getting into the habit of setting “well formed” goals so that you are sure about the “What”, “How” and “Why” is the surest way to turn dreams into reality.
In order to hit a bullseye, an archer needs to know where the target is. Being clear about where you are aiming is the first step to positive change and ultimately success!
Having a process for setting your goals will enable you to coach yourself or others and make the goals “stick”.
This workshop is perfect for individuals who want to develop their personal effectiveness or businesses/teams wishing to set clear goals and design actions to maximise their prospects for success.

Secrets of Interview Success
Competition is more intense now than ever in the job market which means that it has never been more important to have the winning “edge” that will enable you to succeed at interview.
In my previous career (Mel) I interviewed literally hundreds of job applicants. One of my biggest frustrations was the number of candidates who were invited for an interview on the strength of an excellent CV but who “fell apart” in the interview or who seemed to lack the confidence to really give their best.
This “Secrets of Interview Success” coaching focuses on giving you practical tools to enable them you manage your state and communicate effectively so that your abilities can shine through.
We offer one-to-one sessions (generally 2 or 3) tailored to your specific needs including state management, interview preparation and presentation skills. Contact us to discuss your particular needs.
Resilience in the workplace
Resilience is the ability to cope with stress and unexpected challenges, and even to thrive in these situations. Whilst some of us are naturally more resilient that others, the good news is that resilience is a skill that can be learned.
Workplaces can be stressful environments, the high pace of change, economic uncertainty, changing working practices. These stressors can lead to stress at work, high levels of depression and anxiety, employee burnout and reduced productivity.
Fostering resilience promotes positive emotions such as optimism, curiosity and openness to new experiences and challenge. This creates a win-win situation benefitting both the individual and the organisation.
Our resilience training gives participants the knowledge to understand the triggers for negative emotions for themselves and others and the tools to develop their personal resilience.
